Some of the biggest names in USA Water Polo are headed to Cape Town, South Africa for a showdown on March 23rd, 2013. The Americans will perform a clinic on March 22nd in Cape Town and then follow that up with an Official Match on the following day. South Africa is training for the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona, Spain later this summer and this will be an important test match for them to assess where they are in the training. Dr. Terry Schroeder will be at the helm for the Americans fresh off coaching the USA Olympic team in Beijing and London. USA will be anchored in the cage by Double Olympian Merrill Moses, and led on the offensive end by 4X Olympian and leading scorer for the 2012 USA team in London, Ryan Bailey. LOS ALAMITOS – The CIF Southern Secti on is pleased to announce conti nuing/new offi cial ball partnerships with Spalding, Dudley, Rawlings, Wilson Tennis and Kap7. The new ‘offi cial ball’ being introduced for 2011-12 will be the Kap7 water polo ball. Kap7 Internati onal is an industry leader in the club water polo community and is already the offi cial water polo ball of the CIF San Diego, Los Angeles and Central Secti on’s. Kap7 will be the offi cial ball that is required for playoff s in both boys and girls water polo. “Kap7 Internati onal is proud to be the offi cial ball for CIF-SS Water Polo,” said Kap7 co-founder Wolf Wigo. “ It is wonderful to be in a positi on to align our experience, passion and best in class products with the support and growth of the sport. “It has always been a goal of ours to provide water polo products that will raise the talent of local players,” added Wigo “We love seeing our gear out there being uti lized at a high level, especially in the hot bet of youth water polo in the USA.” In additi on to Kap7, long ti me CIF-SS partners Spalding, Rawlings and Wilson Tennis have agreed to conti nue as the offi cial balls in their respecti ve sports through 2016. Each have been the offi cial playoff ball in these sports since 2001-02. SPALDING: Conti nues as offi cial ball of the CIF Southern Secti on-Ford Championships in the sports of football, basketball, soccer and volleyball. Dudley, a division of Spalding, remains the offi cial soft ball. RAWLINGS: Conti nues as offi cial ball of the CIF Southern Secti on-Ford Baseball Championships. WILSON TENNIS: Remains the offi cial tennis ball of the CIF Southern Secti on-Ford Boys/Girls Tennis Championships. All agreements run from July 1, 2011 through the 2016 school year. In exchange, the CIF-SS will receive fi nancial compensati on that will off set costs of championship events, venues and fund valuable awards programs. “On behalf of our member schools, the CIF Southern Secti on is pleased and proud to conti nue our current partnerships and to add new friends,” said CIF-SS Commissioner of Athleti cs Dr. Jim Staunton. “This agreement, in conjuncti on with our other business partners, allows the secti on to provide our first class championships as well as helping to keep the promise of low costs to our schools.” The CIF-SS generates over 20% of an annual $3.5 million operati ng budget through corporate partnerships. These partnerships save the schools an average $1,000 per year that would otherwise have BALL AGREEMENTS (Cont.): to be assessed through member dues and sport fees. This corporate support enabled the CIF-SS to eliminate head count based dues two years ago and conti nue to be the only high school associati on that revenue shares with parti cipati ng schools in all rounds of football, basketball and volleyball playoffs. “The support and responsiveness provided by both Spalding and Rawlings the last ten years has been grati fying,” added Staunton. “The mandatory playoff ball has given our schools a standardized quality ball in all playoff rounds. The most benefi cial part of the program is that have been able to save each school student body nearly $4,000 specifi cally through these ball agreements. This is money they can use for on-campus programs.” The offi cial ball program, adopted by the CIF-SS in 2001, now generates over $340,000 per year in fi nancial support to the secti on that would otherwise have to be passed on in fees to the 582 member schools.
